Colombo, Sri Lanka – In a bold and confident statement, Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) leader Mano Ganesan declared that Sajith Premadasa, the Samagi Jana Balavega’s (SJB) presidential candidate, has already won the election. According to Ganesan, Premadasa’s victory is a certainty, and all that remains is for him to be sworn in as the next President of Sri Lanka.
Speaking to the media after a campaign rally in Nawalapitiya, Ganesan said, “Sajith Premadasa has already won the election; it’s just a matter of taking the oath now.” His remarks came as part of an event designed to rally support for Premadasa’s candidacy in the crucial hill country region.
Ganesan didn’t hold back from taking a swipe at government minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, challenging him to “bring the gas cylinder and start a business in Nawalapitiya town if he can.” This dig was a clear reference to the government’s previous failures, particularly the infamous gas shortages and the inability to maintain essential services.
The TPA leader also lambasted President Ranil Wickremesinghe over broken promises made to plantation workers, a key voting bloc in the region. Ganesan reminded the crowd of Wickremesinghe’s pledge to increase the daily wage of plantation workers to Rs. 1700, a promise that was later reduced to Rs. 1350. “Even that reduced wage has not been delivered yet,” Ganesan added, criticizing the government’s handling of labor rights and economic promises.
With these strong statements, Ganesan’s confidence in Premadasa’s victory reflects a growing sentiment within the opposition that the tides have turned in their favor as the presidential race intensifies.
