V. Radhakrishnan, a prominent figure in Samagi Jana Balavega (SJB), has claimed that many ministers from the current government have secured visas to flee the country, anticipating Sajith Premadasa’s victory in the upcoming presidential election. Speaking at a campaign event in Hapugastalawa, Nawalapitiya, Radhakrishnan emphasized the growing belief in Premadasa’s success and suggested that these ministers are preparing to leave once the results are announced.
Radhakrishnan criticized the circulation of biased survey reports by various political actors, accusing them of manipulating public opinion to serve their own agendas. He dismissed these reports as unrepresentative of the actual mood of the electorate, which, he believes, firmly supports Premadasa.
During his speech, he referenced the unresolved grievances of plantation workers, particularly regarding the unfulfilled promise of an increased daily wage of Rs. 1,700. Despite government assurances made in Kotagala, plantation workers did not receive the promised raise in their monthly salaries. As a result, Radhakrishnan stated, these workers are now committed to voting for Premadasa in the upcoming election.
He concluded by affirming that none of the Samagi Jana Balavega MPs plan to leave the country, as they are confident in Premadasa’s leadership and the party’s future under his presidency.
