National People’s Force (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has firmly rejected the involvement of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a debate with President Ranil Wickramasinghe. Speaking at a public meeting in Ambalantota, Dissanayake made it clear that while he is ready to engage in a face-to-face discussion on economic policies, the IMF has no role in such a debate.
“I am prepared to debate Ranil Wickramasinghe on our economic policies on any television channel,” said Dissanayake. However, he dismissed the president’s suggestion that the IMF should be invited to the debate, emphasizing that the IMF is not participating in the presidential election.
This comes after President Wickramasinghe indicated his willingness to discuss economic policies with the involvement of the IMF, a stance Dissanayake opposes, insisting that the debate should remain focused on the policies of their respective parties.
