Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, the independent presidential candidate, highlighted the recent economic stabilization as a key achievement that has enabled him to provide relief to the people of Sri Lanka. Addressing a gathering at the Sri Lankan General Assembly in Beruwala, Wickramasinghe expressed his satisfaction with the progress made under his leadership.
Speaking at a public rally organized to promote his “Powerful Sri Lanka” vision, Wickramasinghe detailed several policy changes aimed at easing the economic burden on citizens. “The ban on vehicle imports has been lifted, and individual income taxes have been reduced,” he said. “These measures have provided relief to everyone.”
Wickramasinghe also critiqued his opponents’ economic plans, contrasting them with his own. He criticized Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s policy, suggesting it could lead to a significant devaluation of the Sri Lankan rupee. “If Anura’s policy is implemented, we could see the exchange rate reach 400 rupees per dollar,” Wickramasinghe warned. He also dismissed Sajith Premadasa’s approach, implying that it involves giving away resources without a clear plan for sustainability.
The rally, held on September 13, aimed to strengthen support for Wickramasinghe’s candidacy and his vision for a robust economic recovery and national empowerment.
