Ratnapura, Sri Lanka – Presidential candidate of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Sajith Premadasa, has pledged to eradicate poverty and create a “common era” under his government. Speaking at a public rally in Ratnapura on September 14, Premadasa outlined his vision for a future where poverty is a thing of the past.
Premadasa highlighted his party’s 24-month program, which promises to provide a monthly allowance of 20,000 rupees to families in need for two years. However, he stressed that the goal was not simply to offer financial relief but to help people rise out of poverty sustainably.
“We are not giving this money for eating and drinking. As a government, we are intervening to lift you out of the poverty you have fallen into,” Premadasa declared to the crowd.
His vision for a “common era” reflects a commitment to creating a future where all citizens have equal opportunities for growth and prosperity. Premadasa’s strategy focuses on long-term solutions to address the root causes of poverty rather than offering short-term financial assistance.
