Matale, Sri Lanka – Independent presidential candidate and current President Ranil Wickremesinghe has pledged to focus on transforming Sri Lanka into an export-driven economy by 2025. Speaking at a public rally in Matale on September 14, organized to promote his “Puluwan Sri Lanka” vision, Wickremesinghe outlined his plans for the country’s economic growth in the coming year.
Wickremesinghe announced that with the current financial stability, the government would lift the ban on vehicle imports, allowing citizens to purchase new vehicles, including motorcycles. “Now that there is money, the ban on importing vehicles will be removed. Now you can buy a new motorcycle,” he told the crowd.
He also emphasized his commitment to further economic development, stating, “Next year, we will develop more. We will create an export economy.”
The President’s plan aims to boost Sri Lanka’s international trade by prioritizing exports, which he believes will drive sustainable economic growth and improve the country’s financial health. Wickremesinghe’s focus on creating an export economy marks a key element of his strategy to empower Sri Lanka and ensure long-term prosperity.
