Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka – Presidential candidate of the National People’s Power (NPP), Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has criticized Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate Sajith Premadasa for recycling outdated slogans and ideas. Speaking at a public rally in Anuradhapura on September 14, Dissanayake accused Premadasa of reviving old political rhetoric instead of presenting fresh solutions to the people.
“I tell Sajith Premadasa to remember to bring something new instead of the old stuff. His camp keeps replaying the same tired racist and religious disc, but the people aren’t responding to it anymore,” Dissanayake remarked, highlighting his opponent’s reliance on outdated strategies.
He went on to poke fun at the SJB, stating that it remains a movement recycling the same rhetoric, with familiar figures like Champika, Thilanga, and Debiddo delivering the same messages. “It’s the same story, over and over again. But even the former presidents’ wives have stopped caring about it,” Dissanayake quipped, urging the public to reject such old-fashioned politics.
With these remarks, Dissanayake positioned himself as a candidate offering new perspectives, contrasting sharply with what he described as Premadasa’s repetitive and ineffective messaging.
