Batticaloa, Sri Lanka – A public rally in Batticaloa supporting Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate of Samagi Jana Balawega, was marred by violence as stones were thrown at Rauf Hakeem, leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.
The incident occurred while Hakeem was addressing the assembly, leading to significant disturbance at the event. Hakeem’s bodyguards quickly surrounded him to ensure his safety amid the commotion.
This altercation follows a previous incident on August 23 in Akurana, where Hakeem was also booed during a rally. The repeated disruptions highlight the intensifying tensions in the lead-up to the presidential election and the increasing polarization among political supporters.
