National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has criticized President Ranil Wickremesinghe for instilling fear among the public with alarming statements about the future of the economy.
Speaking on a program aired on Sirasa TV, Dissanayake accused the President of warning that the economy would collapse if there is a change in government, claiming that such statements were causing unnecessary panic. According to the NPP leader, Wickremesinghe had suggested that the US dollar could soar to Rs. 400 and that the Colombo stock market was on the verge of collapse due to the uncertain political climate.
However, Dissanayake pointed out that after he held an economic conference and clarified his party’s economic stance, the stock market’s rapid decline came to a halt, showcasing the impact of his intervention on market stability.
