Galle, September 16, 2024 — Manusha Nanayakkara, a key supporter of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has asserted that Wickremesinghe’s victory in the presidential election on September 21st will usher in a period of stability and security. Speaking to the media in Neluva, Galle, Nanayakkara addressed concerns about potential post-election unrest and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
Nanayakkara emphasized that Wickremesinghe’s administration would not resort to conspiracies to achieve electoral success. Instead, he highlighted the President’s past efforts in stabilizing the country during a period of severe shortages and unrest. “On the 21st, the people of Sri Lanka cannot afford to return to the era of suffering,” Nanayakkara said. “They remember the hardships of the past two and a half years, and they are looking to make a wise decision to avoid similar suffering in the future.”
Reflecting on Wickremesinghe’s tenure, Nanayakkara praised the President’s decisive actions during a crisis that saw widespread shortages of essential goods. “President Wickremesinghe took bold and risky decisions to bring oil and gas to the people when no other leader was willing to act,” he stated. “The President’s efforts during this time are not forgotten, and there is a clear recognition of the stability he has brought.”
Nanayakkara also addressed concerns about election-related violence, asserting that the security forces are on high alert to prevent any potential unrest. He criticized reports of planned fake rallies and potential provocations aimed at inciting riots, stating that the government is prepared to take necessary actions to ensure peace.
“The government does not need to engage in conspiracies to win the election,” Nanayakkara said. “We are committed to ensuring a peaceful transition and will not tolerate any form of election violence. The law will be enforced to maintain order.”
Nanayakkara also acknowledged Geeta Kumarasinghe’s efforts to rally support for Wickremesinghe, noting her dedication to the President’s campaign. “Geeta Kumarasinghe is working diligently to unite the United National Party members in support of the President,” he added.
As the election approaches, Nanayakkara’s statements aim to reassure the public and underline the government’s preparedness to handle any challenges that may arise.
