Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the presidential candidate of the National People’s Party (NPP), acknowledged that Sri Lanka’s economy has seen growth and improved efficiency under President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s administration. Speaking during the “Derana 360” program, Dissanayake highlighted the significant increase in state revenue without the need for new taxes.
According to Dissanayake, the government has generated approximately 700 billion rupees in revenue over the past year. He noted that this revenue growth is not due to the imposition of additional taxes, but rather the natural expansion of the economy. He emphasized that individuals and businesses who were previously outside the tax system are now being included, contributing to the country’s fiscal health.
Dissanayake’s comments reflect a balanced perspective, acknowledging the current administration’s economic achievements while positioning his own policies for future growth and development.
