The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has issued a warning regarding potential disruptions during the presidential election. Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake stated that if any acts of vandalism or sabotage occur at a polling station, the votes cast there could be nullified. If the nullification of votes at a particular station impacts the overall election results, a re-poll will be conducted at that station.
Ratnayake emphasized that the announcement of final election results might be delayed until all re-polling activities are completed. He urged voters to avoid loitering near polling stations and engaging in violent acts, which could disrupt the voting process.
To ensure a smooth and orderly election, all security forces have been instructed to strictly enforce the law. The police and special task forces have been deployed to maintain peace, while the tri-forces are on standby to respond to any emergencies. The Election Commission has taken these steps to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the election is conducted fairly and without interruptions.
