The National Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons has revealed a disturbing rise in the trafficking of citizens to cyber crime camps in Myanmar. According to the task force, traffickers are targeting individuals with information technology expertise, luring them with promises of high-paying jobs abroad, particularly in countries like Thailand.
These victims, often young professionals, are initially led to believe they are being offered lucrative IT jobs in countries like Thailand. However, they are then deceitfully transported to other nations, such as Dubai, under the guise of attending job interviews. From there, they are taken across the border to Myanmar, where they are forced to work in cyber crime operations.
Investigations have uncovered the horrific conditions inside these cyber crime camps. Victims report being subjected to severe physical and psychological abuse, with many enduring electric shocks and other forms of brutal torture.
The task force warns of the growing danger and urges for heightened awareness and action to prevent further exploitation. Law enforcement agencies have been called to crack down on these trafficking networks to protect vulnerable citizens from falling prey to these deceptive schemes.
