The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has taken steps to suspend the party memberships of three prominent Members of Parliament. Anuradhapura District MP SM Chandrasena, Ratnapura District MP Pavithradevi Vanniarachchi, and Kalutara District MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena are the MPs affected by this decision.
The suspension follows their defiance of a decision made during a Politburo meeting held on July 29, where the party chose to support a specific candidate. The MPs’ actions were seen as a breach of party loyalty.
According to the party’s statement, the suspended MPs held important positions, including membership in the All Ceylon Committee, Executive Council Chairmanship, and roles within the Politburo and National Convenorship of the SLPP.
