Several prominent election monitoring organizations have mobilized teams of observers to ensure transparency and fairness during the counting of votes in Sri Lanka’s 2024 presidential election.
Mr. Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of Paffaral Organization, announced that 200 observers have been deployed to monitor various vote-counting centers across the country. This initiative is part of a larger effort to uphold election integrity and ensure that the process is free from irregularities.
Similarly, Mr. Manjula Gajanayake, Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Reforms and Election Studies, confirmed that his organization has also taken steps to deploy observers at select counting centers.
In addition, Mr. Manas Makish, Executive Director of Cafe Organization, stated that two observers will be stationed at each vote-counting center, further enhancing the monitoring effort.
Mr. Arjuna Parakrama, Head of Operations at the Election Violence Monitoring Center, noted that their organization will assign one observer to each vote-counting center. He emphasized that the same team could continue to monitor the situation if necessary, ensuring a continuous presence throughout the counting process.
Furthermore, Mr. Rasanga Harishchandra, Executive Director of the National Election Observation Center, confirmed that their organization has been actively monitoring vote-counting activities, contributing to the overall effort to ensure transparency.
These collective efforts reflect a significant commitment to upholding the integrity of Sri Lanka’s democratic process during this crucial presidential election. With such a large deployment of observers, it is expected that the vote-counting process will be closely scrutinized, helping to prevent any potential issues or disputes.
