Polling began promptly at 7:00 a.m. and continued without interruption until 4:00 p.m. Voter participation was notably high, with many districts reporting a turnout of over 75%. This year’s election was conducted across 13,421 polling stations, reflecting a well-organized national effort.
Ratnayake also confirmed that the counting of votes will take place at 1,713 designated centers across the island. The Election Commissioner noted that the peaceful atmosphere and the high level of voter engagement were key features of this election. The announcement of the results is expected to follow the completion of the vote counting process later tonight or early tomorrow morning.
This election marks a significant milestone for Sri Lanka, with high hopes for a stable and effective outcome.
