A curfew has been announced for the entire island of Sri Lanka, effective from 10:00 PM tonight until 6:00 AM tomorrow morning. The decision was communicated via a press release from the Police, following Gazette No. 2402/23 issued under the Public Security Act, granting the President the authority to implement such measures.
While the current situation in the country remains peaceful, the curfew is intended to enhance public safety. Citizens are urged to remain at home during the designated hours.
During the curfew, individuals engaged in election duties can use their ID cards or authorized documents as permits. Travelers heading to or from the airport are advised to carry their flight tickets or relevant documentation to confirm their travel plans.
Employees of organizations providing essential services may also present their official ID cards or other appropriate documents for curfew exemptions. It is essential that they provide necessary identification to the police when required.
The Sri Lanka Police has instructed all officers to strictly enforce the curfew, emphasizing the importance of compliance among the public. Citizens are reminded to avoid any actions that may violate this order.
