Colombo, September 22 – The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has officially declared Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the National People’s Force (NPP) candidate, as the winner of the 2024 presidential election, held on September 21.
With this victory, Dissanayake becomes the ninth executive president of the country.
Due to no candidate securing over 50% of the vote in the first round, the Election Commission conducted second and third preference vote counts.
The final tally revealed:
- Anura Dissanayake: 5,740,179 votes
- Sajith Premadasa: 4,530,902 votes
Dissanayake’s victory marks a significant political shift in Sri Lanka.
