Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has formally announced his resignation, submitting a letter to President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The resignation follows the election of Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the 9th Executive President of Sri Lanka in the September 21 presidential election.
In his letter, Gunawardena cited Article 47 (2) of the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, which outlines the conditions for the resignation of the Prime Minister following the election of a new President.
This development marks a significant transition in the political landscape of Sri Lanka, as the new administration under President Dissanayake begins its term.
