In a significant reshuffle, nine new provincial governors were sworn in today (25) before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat.
Among the newly appointed governors are:
- Professor Sarath Abeykoon, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, as the new Governor of the Central Province.
- Mr. Nagalingam Vaganayagam has taken the oath as the Governor of the Northern Province.
- Mr. Bandula Harishchandra, a senior administrative officer, has been appointed as the Governor of the Southern Province.
- Mrs. Champa Janaki has been sworn in as the Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province.
Addressing the media at the ceremony, the new Sabaragamuwa Provincial Governor, Mrs. Champa Janaki, confirmed that a total of nine governors were sworn in by the President today, marking a notable administrative change in the provincial leadership.
The new appointments are expected to bring fresh leadership to the provinces, enhancing governance and development at the local level. Further details regarding the remaining appointments are expected to be released soon.
