Dr. Priyanga Dunusinghe, Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Colombo, emphasized that immediate economic relief cannot be expected following the election of a new government. He explained that economic benefits require time and urged people to be patient while the government works to steer the economy in a new direction.
Dr. Dunusinghe highlighted the importance of supporting the current administration’s efforts to stabilize the country’s finances and emphasized the need for strategic communication regarding dealings with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He also pointed out that addressing Sri Lanka’s significant debt burden and rapidly developing the export sector are essential steps for economic recovery.
According to him, although the country has emerged from the worst of its economic crisis, sustainable growth will require further efforts and time.
