Sri Lanka has initiated an immediate forensic audit to investigate the irregularities surrounding the VFS Global agreement, according to Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, who also oversees Public Security and the Department of Immigration.
“Any identified discrepancies will be subject to legal action in the future,” Minister Herath stated.
This move is expected to grant equal access to visa facilities for those in the business and investment sectors.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court ordered the arrest of Immigration Controller General I.H. Illukpitiya for failing to reinstate the previous Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, once praised as one of the world’s most user-friendly visa systems.
The VFS Global system, criticized for its high fees and lack of upfront transparency, also deterred many older visitors who struggled to navigate it. VFS Global operates online visa services for several developed nations, aiming to screen visitors from developing countries.
