Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is reportedly being considered for the prestigious role of Chairman at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). A formal request has been made for him to step into the position by March next year, though Wickremesinghe has yet to reveal his intentions.
The ADB’s interest was sparked by Wickremesinghe’s “masterful” work with the IMF during his presidency, a period marked by some of Sri Lanka’s toughest economic challenges. They now believe his strategies could be applied on a larger scale, offering his wisdom to the world.
In the meantime, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene has mentioned that Wickremesinghe hinted he may not contest the next general election or enter Parliament via the national list, perhaps preferring his global stage over Sri Lanka’s.
