Senior Archaeologist Prof. Raj Somadeva has confirmed that five skeletons were uncovered at the Colombo Port premises during ongoing archaeological excavations. The second phase of the excavation, which began on July 5th, concluded on September 28th due to the completion of the allocated budget for the current phase.
The skeletons were first discovered on July 13th, and further investigations revealed a total of five skeletal remains by the end of the second phase. A team of five officers was involved in the excavation process, working meticulously to uncover the findings.
Prof. Somadeva announced that the third phase of the excavation is set to begin on October 15th, with an estimated budget of one billion rupees allocated for the continuation of the project. These findings are expected to shed more light on the historical and archaeological significance of the area surrounding Colombo Port.
