Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya, announced that a crucial discussion will be held on Monday (30) to decide on the future security arrangements for former presidents and other high-profile individuals. The meeting, chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, will review potential threats to these VIPs and determine whether their current security details should be reduced.
The Acting IGP Weerasuriya emphasized that there will be no changes to the security provided at important religious sites, including Sri Dalada Maligawa and Sri Maha Bodhi. However, police protection for former members of parliament has already been withdrawn. The outcome of this meeting will shape the next steps in managing VIP security across the country.
There should be no Police escort of any sort other than a accompanying rider. They should to all common traffic rules by observing traffic signals and no driving on the wrong side.
I’m waiting to see a MP or a MINISTER driving his own vehicle without guards of any sort. Why is it that once they come into power there life becomes a threat? After all they been elected by the people? I once saw PRASSANA RANATUNGE driving around by himself, I suppose he is safe because he is a part of the underworld!
