Colombo – Consumers in Sri Lanka are bracing for a potential increase in gas prices as Saudi Aramco, the main supplier of gas to Litro Gas Company, has raised prices for October. The price per metric ton of gas has surged by $33, reaching $629, a significant hike that is likely to impact household budgets.
As a result of this price increase, Litro Gas may need to raise the cost of a standard 12.5 kg gas cylinder by approximately 200 rupees. Company officials have indicated that failing to do so would force them to absorb the extra costs from their profits, which may not be sustainable in the long term.
The monthly gas price revision, typically scheduled at the beginning of the month, is expected to be announced today or tomorrow. The company is currently evaluating the global market fluctuations and local conditions to determine the exact price adjustment.
This anticipated price hike is expected to place additional pressure on Sri Lankan households, already grappling with inflation and the rising cost of living.
