Colombo – A group of representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka tomorrow (October 2), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This visit is part of the routine review concerning the release of the third loan installment under the IMF’s comprehensive credit facility to Sri Lanka.
The delegation is expected to meet with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as well as Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. At a press conference in Colombo, Minister Herath downplayed the significance of the visit, describing it as a “normal friendly discussion.”
Minister Herath added that while tomorrow’s discussions are expected to be relatively informal, a more in-depth conversation about Sri Lanka’s progress under the IMF’s program and future plans will take place during a separate meeting in New York, USA. The IMF’s ongoing assistance is seen as critical to stabilizing Sri Lanka’s economy amidst its recovery efforts.
