Former Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has expressed his willingness to step away from politics but finds it challenging to do so due to his longstanding connections with the party and its supporters. In a recent media interaction, he reflected on his 35 years in the political arena, stating, “For me, I can leave this. I have no problem. The only problem I have is whether I can leave those people alone who have been in politics for 35 years.”
He emphasized that his decision is not about personal ambition or the fear of winning or losing; rather, it is about his commitment to the people who have stood by him throughout his political journey. Siripala noted that after consulting various individuals, he received encouragement to continue his political endeavors, suggesting that there is a strong belief among his peers that he should remain in the race.
