Colombo, Sri Lanka – Former State Minister D.V. Chanaka emphasized that Anura Kumara Dissanayake, leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), recently made a bold announcement in Parliament, claiming that his government could sell fuel by adding just ten rupees to the landing price. Dissanayake highlighted that the current cost of unloading a liter of petrol is Rs. 160 and proposed that the retail price could be set at Rs. 170 per liter.
Also Chanaka emphasized Dissanayake’s commitment, stating that if the JVP leader follows through with his promises, citizens could expect both petrol and diesel prices to fall within the range of Rs. 170 to Rs. 190 per liter. Dissanayake’s remarks were made during a media briefing in Colombo, aiming to address the pressing economic concerns faced by the public amid escalating fuel prices.
Dissanayake’s proposal is seen as part of a broader strategy to alleviate the financial burdens on citizens grappling with high living costs. With rising inflation and economic challenges dominating the national discourse, his announcement may resonate with voters as the country approaches upcoming elections.
