Colombo, Sri Lanka – Former Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has issued a strong challenge to President Anura Dissanayake, demanding that he substantiate claims regarding hidden wealth allegedly embezzled by the Rajapaksa family, particularly suggesting that billions of dollars are concealed in Uganda and other locations.
In a post on his social media platform, Rajapaksa referenced Dissanayake’s earlier statements made during the presidential campaign, in which the president accused the Rajapaksa regime of corruption and misappropriation of public funds over many years. Rajapaksa asserted that the time has come for Dissanayake to provide evidence to support these serious allegations.
This confrontation is likely to escalate tensions between the two political figures, as accusations of corruption and mismanagement have been central themes in Sri Lankan politics, particularly in the aftermath of the economic crisis that has gripped the nation.
The challenge from Rajapaksa highlights ongoing divisions within the political landscape, as public trust in political leadership remains a significant issue amid calls for accountability and transparency. The fallout from these allegations could influence upcoming electoral dynamics and public perception of both leaders.
