Colombo, Sri Lanka – The Sri Lanka Police have announced the establishment of a special team to reopen investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. This decision was confirmed by Minister of Public Security Vijitha Herath during a recent press briefing where he outlined the latest Cabinet decisions.
A senior police officer noted that plans for the reopening of the investigations are currently being formulated, aiming to ensure thorough and effective inquiry into the tragic events that resulted in significant loss of life and injury across multiple locations in Sri Lanka.
The Easter Sunday attacks, which occurred on April 21, 2019, involved coordinated bombings at three churches and three luxury hotels, leading to over 260 fatalities and hundreds more injured. The reopening of these investigations is seen as a crucial step in seeking justice for the victims and their families, as well as addressing ongoing public concerns regarding security and accountability in the aftermath of the attacks.
