Colombo, October 3, 2024 – Namal Rajapaksa, the national organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and former member of parliament, has refuted claims that he plans to contest in the Kurunegala district for the upcoming general election. In a recent statement, Rajapaksa emphasized his commitment to the Hambantota district, where he previously secured the highest number of votes in the last general election.
Rajapaksa expressed his gratitude to the people of Hambantota, stating, “I will not abandon the district that has supported me throughout my political journey. The reports suggesting that I will be contesting from Kurunegala are completely false. My political roots are deeply embedded in Hambantota, and I will continue to engage with the beloved people of this district who have given me so much.”
While the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has yet to finalize the districts from which its candidates will run, Rajapaksa highlighted the misleading nature of the rumors regarding his candidacy. “In this uncertain environment, it is unfortunate that some individuals are spreading false information for their political gain. It is vital to clarify that no decisions have been made regarding candidate districts for the upcoming elections.”
He further urged the public to remain informed and cautious of misinformation, emphasizing that the party’s focus remains on serving the interests of the people. “As we approach the elections, I encourage everyone to stay updated through official channels. The people deserve accurate information, not speculation or misrepresentation.”
As the political landscape evolves, Rajapaksa reiterated his dedication to his constituents in Hambantota, looking ahead to the opportunities to further serve them in the future.
