Colombo, October 3, 2024 – Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage has taken serious measures following threats made against him and his family. He filed a complaint with the Deputy Inspector General and the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, urging an investigation into a Facebook post that stated, “Let’s kill Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage and his family.”
The threats come in the wake of Gamage’s recent orders concerning two notorious underworld figures, Harak Kata and Kudu Salidu. Following these rulings, the magistrate received multiple threatening letters warning that he would face dire consequences. Given the gravity of the situation, Magistrate Gamage has been under police protection.
The alarming Facebook post is reportedly linked to false accusations against Natasha Edrisuriya, who released a controversial video on a comedy program called Modabhimana. The individual behind the post has suggested violent retribution against Gamage, further escalating concerns about the safety of judicial officials in Sri Lanka.
The police are now actively investigating the origins of the threats to ensure the safety of the magistrate and his family.
