In a significant gesture of goodwill, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended an invitation to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to visit India at his convenience. This invitation was conveyed by Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar during his official visit to Sri Lanka on October 4.
In a reciprocal move, President Dissanayake has also invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Sri Lanka, signaling a mutual interest in enhancing bilateral relations, according to the Presidential Media Unit.
During his visit, Minister Jaishankar held discussions with various political leaders, including Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, former President Ranil Wickramasinghe, and Sajith Premadasa, leader of the Samagi Jana Balavega. This visit marks Jaishankar’s first official trip to Sri Lanka since Dissanayake assumed the presidency.
The Indian Foreign Minister arrived in Sri Lanka on a special Air Force plane and engaged in talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vijitha Herath. Following his meeting with President Dissanayake, Jaishankar expressed appreciation for the president’s guidance in fostering Indo-Sri Lankan relations.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening existing ties for the mutual benefit of the citizens of India and Sri Lanka, highlighting a commitment to deepening cooperation between the two nations.
