The National People’s Force (NPP), led by its national executive member and former parliamentarian K.D. Lal Kantha, is reportedly receiving an overwhelming number of applications from candidates eager to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections. According to Lal Kantha, the party has already received approximately 500 applications for the Kandy district alone.
However, the number of available slots is significantly limited. Only 15 candidates from a single party or independent group can contest in Kandy, with just 12 MPs to be elected from the district. The NPP has narrowed down its selection to 60 individuals from the large pool of applicants, from which the final 15 candidates will be chosen.
Lal Kantha emphasized the unique approach of NPP candidates, stating that while they display preference numbers during their campaigns, they do not personally request preferential votes from the electorate. This reflects the party’s focus on collective representation rather than individual competition for votes.
The high number of applications underscores the growing interest in the NPP, as they gear up to contest the parliamentary elections under the well-known Compass symbol.
