COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — DIG Advocate Nihal Talduwa, the Police Media Spokesperson, has dismissed rumors claiming that the security of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been withdrawn, affirming that his protection remains intact.
Talduwa clarified that the security detail, including 50 officers from the Police Special Task Force assigned to safeguard the former president, is still operational. He emphasized that there has been no reduction in the level of protection provided to Wickremesinghe.
Responding to a query from ‘Ada Derana’ regarding the circulating rumors, DIG Talduwa assured that the police and security forces are committed to maintaining the safety of the former president. However, he noted that the precise number of officers assigned to Wickremesinghe is under review and will be finalized soon.
In contrast, the Presidential Security Division for the current President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has already been established, with any excess personnel reportedly being reassigned or removed.
