HATTON, Sri Lanka — V. Radhakrishnan, deputy leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance and leader of the Kadura Janata Peramuna, has stated that the increase in egg prices will be a critical issue in the upcoming general election. Speaking at a press conference at his party’s office in Hatton, he expressed his commitment to serving the plantation community without the extravagant privileges previously granted to MPs.
Radhakrishnan praised President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s decision to reduce privileges for MPs in order to curb national waste, and vowed to work for the welfare of the plantation people. He emphasized that, as an entrepreneur, he understands the economic needs of the community.
He also noted that a major plantation trade union is set to contest the election under the elephant symbol, a choice that he believes will be rejected by the plantation voters who have long distanced themselves from the symbol.
Radhakrishnan further highlighted that many prominent figures, including four former presidents and several MPs accused of corruption, will not contest this election, as they have been rejected by the public.
Concluding his remarks, Radhakrishnan underscored that the rising cost of eggs and other economic concerns will play a decisive role in the upcoming general election, where he anticipates a significant victory for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
