Former Member of Parliament and leader of the Democratic Left Front, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, has announced that his party supports the current government. He explained that although the Democratic Left Front did not unite with the National People’s Force (NPP) during the last presidential election, this was primarily due to differences in policy.
Nanayakkara emphasized that while there were common goals, the divergence on key policy matters made it difficult to form a political alliance with the NPP at that time. Despite this, he reiterated his support for the current government’s efforts and its direction, highlighting that his party believes in working with the government to address the challenges facing the country.
Nanayakkara’s statement reflects the complexities of coalition politics in Sri Lanka, where shared objectives can be outweighed by specific policy disagreements.
