In a recent press conference, Hesha Withanage, the Ratnapura district group leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya party, clarified the situation regarding actress Damita Abhayaratne’s candidacy in the upcoming elections. Withanage stated that Abhayaratne has not been officially presenting herself as a candidate in the Ratnapura district under the party banner.
Withanage emphasized that candidates for the districts are nominated solely by the party’s candidate selection committee, a process in which he himself was selected after formally applying for candidacy. He stressed the importance of adhering to the party’s protocols and procedures in selecting candidates.
“Some individuals within my own group are trying to take advantage of this situation by spreading false information and contacting others to create confusion,” Withanage remarked, urging party members to remain united and focused on their objectives.
He called for transparency and solidarity within the party as they approach the elections, reiterating the need to trust the processes established by the party leadership.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation and discussions regarding the party’s candidate nominations, particularly as the election date approaches. Withanage’s statements aim to quell rumors and reinforce the party’s commitment to a fair and structured selection process.
As the political landscape in Ratnapura continues to evolve, party leaders and candidates are expected to navigate these challenges with a focus on unity and collective goals.
