Colombo – Police Media Spokesperson Mr. Nihal Talduwa addressed concerns regarding alleged death threats made against former opposition leader and Samagi Jana Balawega leader, Mr. Sajith Premadasa, during a press conference on [date].
Talduwa clarified that the police investigation into these threats has not substantiated any claims of a planned attack on Premadasa. “There was some publicity during the election period suggesting there was a plot to kill the former opposition leader. We received a complaint regarding this matter, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted an investigation,” he stated.
He continued, “The investigation did not reveal any evidence of an organized plan to murder Mr. Premadasa. While there were exchanges of messages, there is no concrete information indicating a threat to his life.”
The police spokesperson noted that due to the nature of the allegations, security measures were implemented for Premadasa during the election period. However, he reassured the public that such protection is no longer deemed necessary at this time.
“We take any allegations seriously, but the investigation has confirmed that no actionable threats exist,” Talduwa emphasized.
