The Department of Posts has issued a clarification regarding reports of postage stamps featuring Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Minister Vijitha Herath, which surfaced during the 150th World Postal Day celebrations. The Postmaster General emphasized that these stamps are not official and cannot be used for postal purposes.
According to the department, the images of the two officials appeared only on commemorative souvenirs presented to them as chief guests of the event. “These belong to the category of commemorative stamps,” the department explained, noting that they are solely meant as gifts and are not part of any official stamp issuance.
The department further clarified that anyone can create personalized stamps with chosen images, but such stamps are strictly for personal use and do not hold any value in postal services. “They are not official postal stamps and cannot be used for postal purposes,” the department reiterated to clear any misconceptions.
