President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed Ministry officials to allocate 11,000 acres of land from the Kantale Sugar Company to local farmers for the cultivation of short-term crops. The decision, announced by the President’s Media Division (PMD), aims to boost agricultural production and support farmers by providing them access to this large tract of land.
This allocation is part of a broader initiative to encourage local agriculture and optimize the use of underutilized land. By focusing on short-term crops, the move is expected to contribute to the country’s food security and improve the livelihoods of farmers. The Kantale Sugar Company land, previously used for sugarcane cultivation, will now serve as a key resource for enhancing agricultural output in the region.
The directive reflects the government’s commitment to making productive use of available resources while empowering the local farming community.
