In response to the severe weather conditions impacting the island, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed officials to provide immediate relief to those affected by floods and landslides. The President has also instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense to prioritize the safety of people in disaster-hit districts and ensure that relief efforts are executed efficiently.
The government has allocated 50 million rupees for these emergency relief services, with the President emphasizing the need for coordinated action among government officials to deliver aid promptly. Citizens affected by the situation are advised to stay cautious and can reach out to local authorities for assistance.
The Disaster Management Center has reported that 24,492 people from 6,018 families have been impacted across 11 districts due to recent adverse weather. Additionally, 2,200 individuals from 584 families have been accommodated in 23 relief centers. Relief operations are being carried out in collaboration with government agencies and the Office of the Chief of Defense Staff across all affected districts.
