Anuradhapura District Parliamentary Candidate and National Executive Member of the National People’s Forces, Wasantha Samarasinghe, stated that the government is taking a measured approach to apprehending corrupt individuals, rather than acting hastily. He made these remarks during a public meeting organized by the National People’s Forces.
Samarasinghe acknowledged public concerns, noting that some citizens feel merely catching wrongdoers is insufficient. He reassured that the government’s anti-corruption efforts are deliberate and aimed at ensuring that once culprits are apprehended, they face justice without returning to positions of power.
Referring to political developments in Anuradhapura, he pointed out that a former State Minister for Finance was denied a nomination due to the growing awareness of corruption, which has led some politicians to withdraw from public appearances. According to Samarasinghe, this reflects a shift in public sentiment and a growing demand for accountability.
