A serious boiler explosion at a factory in Badalgama has led to the tragic death of one worker and left 17 others injured. The incident occurred this morning (14), with the deceased identified as a 52-year-old resident of the Giriulla area. Following the explosion, he was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. His body has been placed in the mortuary of the Negombo District General Hospital.
The injured workers are currently receiving medical treatment at various hospitals, including Negombo, Divulapitiya, and Akaragama. Reports indicate that the explosion was caused by excessive pressure building up within the boiler while it was operational.
Badalgama Police are actively conducting further investigations into the incident to determine the exact cause and any potential safety violations that may have contributed to this unfortunate event. Authorities are expected to release more information as their investigation progresses.
