Kalutara district candidate Nilanthi Kottahachchi, representing the National People’s Power, clarified that the money flown to Uganda was not stolen funds, but rather legally printed currency by the Thomas Dilaroo company. Speaking about the party’s plans under a potential government, she emphasized the establishment of an asset restoration institution, akin to those in developed countries, aimed at recovering any public funds illegally invested domestically or abroad.
Addressing past statements about the Rajapaksa family’s alleged hidden wealth in Uganda, she stated that during the last presidential election, she was already aware that the money involved was for legitimate currency printing for Uganda. She also assured that if it is found that public assets have been invested or hidden elsewhere by former governments, her party would act decisively to recover those assets legally.
