A tragic incident unfolded in the Ekala area of Ja-Ela, where a man lost his life following a violent clash between two groups during the distribution of flood aid. The Ja-Ela Police reported that 45-year-old Nuwan Kumara, a resident of 78/B Gampaha Road, sustained severe injuries from a sharp weapon during the altercation and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Ragama Teaching Hospital.
The confrontation erupted amid a large gathering at a wholesale store where volunteers were distributing cooked meals and dry rations to those affected by recent flooding. Eyewitnesses noted that what began as a conversation between two groups quickly escalated into a violent dispute. In the chaos, Kumara was attacked, and the assailant fled the scene immediately after the incident.
