National Executive Member of the National People’s Power and Colombo District Parliamentary Candidate, Chaturanga Abeysinghe, has addressed allegations of family politics involving him and his father, who are both running as candidates. He clarified that their situation differs from the traditional family politics seen in other parties.
Speaking during a television program, Abeysinghe explained that both he and his father were chosen by the party to run in the upcoming elections. His father also holds the position of party secretary, which, according to Chaturanga, does not carry the same connotations as similar roles in other political organizations. He emphasized that their involvement is based on party decisions and merit rather than family influence.
Chaturanga also dismissed suggestions that their candidacies go against the party’s stance on nepotism, stating that the public recognizes the distinction between their circumstances and conventional family politics. He affirmed that their participation is in line with the party’s ideology and that their political rights should not be restricted due to their family relationship.
