President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called for a comprehensive overhaul of Sri Lanka’s education system to ensure it aligns with global demands, emphasizing that this is crucial for the country’s future progress. During a progress review meeting on October 16 at the Presidential Secretariat, he underscored the necessity of equipping children with the knowledge and skills needed to enhance the nation’s human capital.
The President stated that the onus of developing the workforce required for the next decade lies with education officials. He urged them to align educational initiatives with this vision to better prepare students for global challenges.
The review meeting, chaired by President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, focused on five key projects from the Ministries of Education, Science, and Technology. Both leaders instructed officials to expedite the implementation of these initiatives and emphasized the need to reorganize the current school system for improved accessibility and effectiveness. Additional conversations included expanding the number of schools offering science, mathematics, and technology curricula for Advanced Level students.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and Secretary to the Ministry of Education Tilaka Jayasundara, alongside other ministry representatives.
