Former Member of Parliament Nalinda Jayatissa expressed that a well-governed country would eliminate the need for borrowing, highlighting the current administration’s reliance on loans. In a statement during a Sirasa TV program, he criticized the government’s handling of the economy, asserting that the nation is mired in total debt and has not been able to generate adequate revenue.
Jayatissa pointed out that the present government is adhering to loan limits approved by Parliament while managing the economy primarily through borrowed funds. He lamented the lack of financial stability, stating that the country is facing significant challenges due to mismanagement. He believes that if the country had been properly handed over to the government, the financial situation would be vastly improved, and the need for loans would be greatly diminished.
